On 17 December, Rome hosted the Quantum General Assembly, a national event dedicated to the implementation of the Italian Strategy for Quantum Technologies, adopted by the Interministerial Committee for Digital Transition (CITD).
The initiative was organised by the Department for Digital Transformation of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, in collaboration with the Ministry of University and Research, the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, the National Cybersecurity Agency and the National Quantum Science and Technology Institute (NQSTI).
The event was attended by Ministers Guido Crosetto, Adolfo Urso, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin and Anna Maria Bernini, as well as Undersecretary to the Prime Minister Alessio Butti.
This meeting represented an important opportunity for institutional dialogue between the government, the scientific community, universities, research centres and industry, with the aim of taking stock of the progress made in public policies and projects launched in the field of quantum technologies, which are strategic for Italian competitiveness, security and technological autonomy.
During the proceedings, topics such as research and training, technology transfer, industrial development, as well as aspects related to governance, security and international cooperation were addressed, with a view to full integration with European initiatives and major international programmes. The event confirmed the importance of an inter-institutional and systemic approach capable of promoting national scientific excellence, supporting the growth of a competitive industrial supply chain and ensuring the safe and responsible use of quantum technologies.
The contributions that emerged during the event will be incorporated into the next phases of the Strategy’s implementation, guiding the actions planned for 2026 and strengthening Italy’s position in the European and international quantum technology landscape.
